General remarks

The study year at Pforzheim University is devided in two semesters; each semester lasts 15 weeks. The winter semester starts in the beginning of october; the summer semester starts in the beginning of march.The academic calendar in detail you will find under XXXXX. Below we list a more general orientation.

Winter semester

Deadline for applications in degree programs: the deadlines may vary by program, disciplines and the level of the study program.
Deadline for applications in exchange programs
: the deadline is June 1 for all applications/nominations of exchange students. Applications are accepted one year ahead of the deadline. In case an international students will have to get a visa for the stay in Germany he/she should apply much earlier than the deadline is. Issuing a visa via the German Embassy may take several weeks.
Start
: The winter semester starts in the beginning of october (normally first week of october)
German as a Second Language: the intensive class for beginners and the orientation phase starts three weeks earlier than the semester starts (normally mid september)
Semester break and holidays: In the winter semester you will find some holidays:
Date: October 3 (natonal holiday - German Unity Day),
Date: November 1 (regional holiday - All Saints Day),
Date: December 24-26 (national holiday - Christmas),
Date: January 1 (national holiday - New Year),
Date: January 6 (regional holiday - Epiphany)
A semester break lasts normally from December 23 - January 7.
End of semester: The semester ends in the beginning of february. Most of the examinations will take place during the last days of the semester (normally 1-2 weeks)

Summer semester

Date: flexible (end of march - end of april): Good Friday and Easter Sunday and Monday (natonal holiday);
Date: May 1 (national holiday - Labor Day);
Date: flexible (beginning of may): Ascension Day;
Date: flexible (mid may - mid june): Pentecost Sunday and Whitmonday (national holiday),
Date: flexible (end of may - end of june): Corpus Christi (regional holiday)
A semester break is normally the week of the Easter holiday and the week of the Penecost holiday.
End of semester: The semester ends in the beginning of july. Most of the examinations will take place during the last days of the semester (normally 1-2 weeks).
